Minority Contractors Business Assistance Program (MCBAP)
The Minority Contractors Business Assistance Program is sponsored by the Akron Urban League and the Ohio Department of Development. The program provides support in the areas of business counseling, education and training, financial and technical assistance - including business plan development, business certification, OSHA, drug-free workplace, bonding and more!
Business Management Program
The Business Management Program is a series of workshops and classes designed for new and existing minority entrepreneurs and business owners seeking to start, manage and grow a business. The program consists of Business Boot Camp, Credit Counseling, MBE/EDGE Certification, and FastTrac® Programs - a series of workshops developed by entrepreneurs for entrepreneurs and the Kauffman Foundation. o Minority Business Enterprise Certification (MBE/ EDGE) Designed for businesses and contractors interested in obtaining MBE / EDGE certification. Certification allows certified minority-owned business owners to participate in the State’s set aside program as well as the EDGE program for procurement opportunities with the State.
CLASS BEGINS: Business Management Class:Tuesdays beginning April 22 - June 10, 2010, from 6:00 - 9:00 PM.

Construction Management Program The Construction Management Program is designed to provide the minority construction business owners with industry-specific management training. Program participants will gain knowledge of how to reduce real and perceived barriers between the minority-owned construction companies, majority-owned firms and the building trades. CLASSES HELD: Construction Management Class: Saturdays, beginning first Saturday in December, 17 week class, from 10:00 AM - 12:30 PM. COST: $300.00 OSHA 30 Hour Certification & Drug Free Workplace Certification Class:
Tuesdays, April 5, 6, and 13, 2010 from 3:00 - 8:30 PM.
COST: OSHA 30 - $250.00
OSHA 10 - $75.00
Drug-free Work Place - $225.00
• Financial Assistance Program Clients that successfully complete our program become eligible for financial assistance through MBDC. The MBDC will assist qualified clients with credit counseling and financial assistance. The program provides ongoing training and counseling that continues for the term of the loan.
