More than two dozen employers to attend Urban League’s Diversity Career Fair

Six regional companies are sponsoring the Diversity Career Fair at the Akron Urban League and another 20 employers will attend to discuss possible career opportunities for job seekers.

The event is scheduled for 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sept. 9, and is being sponsored by Akron Children’s Hospital, Fifth Third Bank, Panera Bread, Pepsi, Select Staffing and Sterling Jewelers.

Lamon Harris, an employment specialist for the Urban League, said many of the companies who will be sending representatives to the Diversity Fair are ready to hire new associates.

“This is an amazing opportunity for people who are looking for new career opportunities and it’s equally as important for the companies who are seeking new associates,” Harris said. “The Urban League is honored to be able to help facilitate these new relationships.” Harris explained that some company representatives will be conducting interviews right at the Diversity Career Fair while others will just be talking to prospective candidates or collecting resumes.

Allen Ryan, director of external relations for Covelli Enterprises, said his company is seeking people to work in regional Panera Bread restaurants. “We like to promote from within and are looking for those who want to advance,” Ryan said. “We believe in creating a diverse and inclusive workforce and are excited about this career fair and hopeful that we may find people who will be strong candidates for our restaurants.”

Another employer who will attend the job fair, SA Communale, will be seeking applicants for many different positions.

Amy Koza, a human resources generalist of SA Communale, said, “We’re always looking for diversity in our workforce and often have openings for a wide range of people, including those who have experience in the fire protection industry and those who just want to enter it.”

Fifth Third Bank’s E-Bus will also be in attendance providing financial literacy information and training.
