Vickie Person, Ed.D.
Dr. Vickie Person is an educator, motivational speaker, author and administrator. Prior to relocating to Akron, she worked in south suburban school districts of Chicago for 15 years in various positions, including classroom teacher, director, coordinator and principal. She was instrumental in changing the culture and climate in many of those schools. Additionally, she served as a professor and coordinator of the urban teacher education master’s degree program at Governors State University.
Currently, she serves as the Akron Urban League's Director of Education. The Department's mission is to develop the interest and skills of children in science, technology, engineering, arts and math. Students in 3rd – 6th grade that are struggling in science and math, scored below their grade level benchmark on their Summit Education Initiative Benchmark test scores and whose families meet the criteria (low income, receiving TANF, etc.) will qualify for the program. In addition, she oversees the Junior Leaguer’s Math Club for junior high students who will study science, technology, math and financial literacy this spring. These students will also maintain an Urban Farm where they will plant, grow and sell their own vegetables.
Prior to career in education, Dr. Person spent 17 years in corporate industries, most recently serving as Advertising Supervisor for The Chicago Tribune.
