Urban Youth Academy

Preparing Students

Over $200,000 raised in scholarship support for local high school students, 500+ Youth Employed through the Summer Youth Employment Program, 12 High School Equivalency Degrees earned and 3rd through 6th graders engaged in innovative math and science lessons using art and techonology, The Urban League's Urban Youth Academy supports the complete development of youth from the age of 5 to 24.

With a team of highly skilled and qualified educators, coaches and counselors, The Akron Urban League has developed programming that aligns with the Akron Public School’s curriculum preparing students to take the necessary steps to become contributing citizens. Many of our participants are returning students who look forward to being a part of our urban community summer camp. Young people who are referred or come on their own to the Urban League seeking employment know they will gain job skills and work experience in our Youth Employment Program and know they are in the hands of caring adults who want to help them become whomever they want to become. Both parents and students want to be a part of our STEAM Academy, where children are exposed to a new way of learning.

Students who enter into the Urban Youth Academy can count on learning, having fun and growing to the next level towards adulthood. From the summer camp, to the Youth Employment Program, to the afterschool STEAM Academy, young ones from ages 5 to 24 are engaged mentally, emotionally and physically in activities that close the education gaps during the summer months, groom them for long-term employment, and generate higher levels of interest in science and math.
