City of Akron Career Information Session

There will be two sessions offered, one virtual, and one in person. In each session, we’ll discuss City of Akron openings for Safety Communications Technicians, aka, 911 operators.

Thursday, June 8, 2023 from 6-8 pm- In Person at Akron Urban League in Odom Hall

Safety Communication Technicians are the heart of Public Safety for the City of Akron. They work to answer incoming 911 calls and dispatch Police, Fire, and EMS to emergencies. Every new employee completes a 6-8 week training program, where they learn to take 911 calls (prior to ever taking a call). New employees are continually trained throughout their 1st year, learning Police and Fire Dispatch and LEADS.

  • 10 Hour Shifts – Every other weekend off

 Minimum Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma
  • Must be able to type 25 correct words per minute
