Akron Urban League Welcomes Dr. Jennifer Ross as Director of Diversity & Strategic Initiatives

Dr. Ross brings more than 20 years of experience in higher education, race theory and policy studies to the newly created position.

The Akron Urban League is excited to announce and welcome Dr. Jennifer Ross to a newly created position as Director of Diversity & Strategic Initiatives. Dr. Ross joined the organization’s team earlier this month and will begin helping to drive and shape strategic diversity, equality, and inclusion objectives for the organization and community. In this role, Dr. Ross will also help lead community engagement and outreach efforts, and help support the important conversations around race, social justice, inclusion, equality, and more.

“Jennifer has a depth of experience and expertise, particularly around the issues of building and managing cohesive and collaborative relationships around Community Engagement that will create the positive environment so important to the Akron Urban League. Dr. Ross will work to identify and establish partnerships that are important for AUL to participate in or lead the effort,” LeGrair said.

Dr. Ross holds her Bachelor of Arts from Walsh University, Master of Education and Doctor of Education from Ashland University. She has served as Chief Education Consultant, Adjunct Professor, and Master Teacher among other roles over the past 20 years. She also brings experience as a Post Doc Senior Research Fellow on Critical Race Theory and Intersectionality at the African American Policy Forum and the Center for Intersectionality and Policy Studies. 

Ross states “I am excited to join the team at the Akron Urban League and bring energy, passion and the drive to lead the collaborative efforts to bring our community together and am looking forward to engaging with the community to support the conversations around race, social justice, inclusion, equity and equality.”
