Akron Urban League welcomes new President & Chief Executive Officer

Aug 02, 2019

The Akron Urban League is excited to announce and welcome Teresa R. LeGrair as the new President & Chief Executive Officer.  LeGrair will be the successor to Interim CEO Larry Chadwick.   Waverly Partners, a leading executive search firm, along with an 8-member Search Committee chaired by Board member Bob Chess, worked over the last few months reviewing candidates.  LeGrair is expected to start on September 3, 2019.

Board chair Theresa Carter said, “Our Board is excited to have someone with Teresa’s vast amount of nonprofit leadership experience and knowledge of Akron and Summit County to be the Urban League’s champion and advocate. Her experience, specifically in fundraising, management and relationship-building are the skills we are most excited about.”

LeGrair has most recently served as the Director of Community Investment for the Akron Community Foundation.  Previously she was President & CEO of the Boys & Girls Clubs of the Western Reserve and earlier was a Vice President of the Akron-Canton Regional Foodbank.  This is her second stint with the Akron Urban League, having served as a Vice President-Operations from 2003 to 2005.  Her other experience includes working for the National Inventors Hall of Fame and Aetna Health Plans.  She has a Bachelor’s degree in Business Management from Malone University.

“I am honored to be selected to lead the Akron Urban League and help advance the organization’s mission,” said LeGrair. “Upon meeting community leadership, board members and staff I knew this was a perfect fit.”
