Melanie Korman

Melanie Korman is the Events, Volunteers & Special Projects Manager at the Akron Urban League. She was previously a Business Counselor for the Minority Business Assistance Center (MBAC) and the program assistant for the Minority Contractor Capital Access Program (MCCAP). Before joining the Akron Urban League, Melanie was a professional event planner for over 20 years in non-profit, for profit, and collegiate sectors. Her diverse experience encompassed fundraisers, as well as corporate and social events for audiences ranging in sizes from 10 – 20,000 attendees in cities across the U.S.
A local native, Melanie graduated from The University of Akron with a Bachelor of Arts in Mass Media Communications. She’s always had a deep passion for supporting her community and helping others. She currently sits on the Victim Assistance Program’s Annual Mardi Gras Gala Planning Committee and The Hudson Players Play Selection Committee. Three years ago, Melanie created and began distributing Basics Bags for the homeless in Akron. These bags, full of more than 25 basic necessities, are given to those in need throughout the Akron area. So far, Melanie has given over 160 bags to local organizations that distribute supplies and meals to the area’s homeless population.
