Helping Small Businesses Grow

With the help of the Akron Urban League, Minority-Owned KLE Construction was able to bid for and receive over $7 million in projects through Akron Waterways Renewed! Because of this, the business grew from 6 employees to 40.

For several years the Akron Urban League has been a part of helping small businesses grow. Serving Summit and surrounding counties, the Minority Business Assistance Center (MBAC) helps people to engage professionals to expand their business through better financing, market expansion and employee growth and development. Whether businesses seek us or we find them, we offer support to individuals who enter our School of Entrepreneurship, addressing and providing the business support they need.

Knowing that businesses succeed not only because they have the basic ingredients, the School of Entrepreneurship has added training in areas that enhance an individual’s ability to not only grow their business but improve employee retention. The lack of emotional intelligence is a growing concern among employers and the Akron Urban League is certified to train employees - helping them to increase their coping skills, critical thinking and exercising good judgment. This 4-week/24 hour training is available three times per year. Check out our training calendar for scheduled dates.

Always seeking ways to enhance our services, the Akron Urban League will add to its many training workshops OSHA training and certifications. Upcoming classes will be placed on our training calendar that can be found on our website.
