The Akron Urban League was honored to host the premiere of Talking Kids Off The Trigger, a powerful youth-led documentary that shines a light on the impact of gun violence on young people in our community. The film, created by Akron Kids Against Gun Violence in partnership with TomTod Ideas' PREVENT initiative, brought together youth, community leaders, educators, and residents for an evening of reflection, dialogue, and hope.
According to a recent article by Signal Akron, the 30-minute documentary was developed by five middle school students who were inspired to take action after witnessing the effects of gun violence in Akron. Through interviews with community leaders and individuals whose lives have been impacted by violence, the film explores the challenges facing young people while highlighting the importance of mentorship, prevention, and community engagement.
The premiere at the Akron Urban League provided a space for meaningful conversations between generations. Following the screening, attendees participated in a discussion that amplified the voices of the young filmmakers and reinforced the need for continued collaboration to address youth violence in our city.
