Sealing the Past & Breaking Barriers: Expungement Day

A past mistake can create lasting barriers to employment, housing, and opportunity. The Akron Urban League is helping community members take a step toward a fresh start through Expungement Day on Friday, November 6, 2026, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., at 440 Vernon Odom Boulevard in Akron.
Under the theme “Sealing the Past & Breaking Barriers,” the Akron Urban League is partnering with Judge David Hamilton, Administrative/Presiding Judge of the Akron Municipal Court, to offer on-site expungements for eligible misdemeanor cases, with support from The Clean Slate Initiative.

Guest Speaker: Maurice Clarett

Expungement Day will feature Maurice Clarett, a 2002 Ohio State football national champion and community developer, as a guest speaker. His participation adds a meaningful voice to a day centered on second chances and new possibilities.

Participating organizations include the Akron Urban League, Akron Municipal Court, Summit Legal Defenders, the Summit County Prosecutor’s Office, and The Clean Slate Initiative. Together, these partners are helping connect community members with opportunities to move forward.
