Regional Initiative Unites Akron Urban League, Urban League of Greater Cleveland, Greater Stark County Urban League, Lorain County Urban League, and Greater Warren - Youngstown Urban Leagues to Increase Civic Participation and Voter Engagement
AKRON, Ohio (July 7, 2026) — The Akron Urban League, Urban League of Greater Cleveland, Greater Stark County Urban League, Lorain County Urban League, and Greater Warren - Youngstown Urban League today announced the launch of The Power Shift, a regional voter advocacy and civic engagement campaign designed to educate, empower, and mobilize voters across Northeast Ohio.
Inspired by successful Urban League voter engagement efforts nationwide, The Power Shift seeks to strengthen civic participation by connecting residents with nonpartisan voter education resources, voter registration opportunities, election information, and community conversations about the issues impacting their neighborhoods. The campaign reflects the Urban League Movement’s longstanding commitment to advancing civil rights, economic empowerment, and democratic participation.
Launching on July 7, The Power Shift will engage communities throughout Akron, Canton, Cleveland, Warren, and Youngstown through voter registration drives, educational workshops, digital outreach, community events, candidate forums, and election awareness initiatives.
The campaign comes at a critical time as organizations across the country continue efforts to increase voter participation and civic engagement. The Urban Leagues of Northeast Ohio are committed to providing residents with accurate, nonpartisan information that helps them navigate the voting process and make informed decisions at the ballot box.
Through The Power Shift, participating Urban Leagues will focus on:
• Voter registration and voter education
• Election information and voter preparedness
• Youth civic engagement and leadership development
• Community forums and public discussions
• Advocacy for equitable access to the democratic process
• Strengthening civic participation across Northeast Ohio
