The Akron Minority Business Assistance Center (MBAC) would like to share the story of Jasmine Golden, owner of Oh My Yum!, an artisan home bakery specializing in homemade desserts. Jasmine started her business in her home in the fall of 2020 and right away experienced a very busy holiday season, an excellent sign for a new small business owner. Fast forward a year and a half, and she’s already looking to expand into a brick-and-mortar location.

Though Jasmine’s degree is in accounting, she’s been in the kitchen cooking and baking since she was a little girl, eagerly watching her mother and grandmother bake. Her accounting degree has also come in handy in running the business.

MBAC first connected with Jasmine when she sought assistance with her MBE, EDGE, and WBE State certifications.  We worked with her and her business coach to collect and submit all of the required supporting documentation and help her with the online application process. Her certifications are currently in process with the state. The MBAC team continues to work with Jasmine in our Grow Your Business with GrowthWheel cohort program. This program allows Jasmine to attend group sessions and work directly one-on-one with a business counselor to address her business needs, make decisions, and take actions to grow her business.

So, what is the secret to her success? Perhaps the variety of tasty offerings she bakes, from the ever-popular chocolate chip cookie, bourbon pecan brownies, banana pudding, peach cobbler cheesecake, and elegant celebration cakes. Or maybe her success can be found in her delicious recipes (but we can’t share them with you because she doesn’t measure any of her ingredients). It may be that Jasmine focuses on connecting with every customer and educating them on the products she offers. It could even be her drive to seek out business training and resources that will assist her in moving her business forward.

One thing is for sure; there’s a lot of love in everything she bakes because her daughters are always offering a helping hand. This mother of four girls is passing down her love of baking to her daughters, just as her grandmother and mother passed their love of cooking and baking down to her.

If you’d like to see all the yumminess that Jasmine creates, visit her website at https://www.ohmyyum.com/ or her Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/oohmyyum/.

The MBAC team wanted to recognize Jasmine for all her hard work and dedication to making her business a success, and we will continue to provide resources to help her business grow!
