  • How long should the program take me to complete? The complete program is 80 -110 hours of training. The paid apprenticeship that follows is 12 months.

PROGRAM Requirements:

  • The desire to operate in a dynamic, growing, multi-project environment

  • The personality to problem-solve while building relationships
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • 18 years or older

WHAT ARE THE STEPS?

  1. Pretesting: We will identify candidates for the Employability Program. The Akron Urban League will administer a short online career assessment and Franklin will administer a MIG (My Inner Genius) assessment, measuring your aptitude for technology. Expect to dedicate one hour to this portion.
  2. Phase 1: Career Readiness Training is 30 – 40 hours of professional development curriculum from Franklin and Akron Urban League. This is both remote and classroom learning.
  3. Phase 2: Pre-Apprenticeship – Candidates completing Phase 1 will continue to the Technical Training. This is online, self-paced 50 – 70 hours training from Franklin. Additionally you’ll receive remote coaching and mentoring from Franklin Apprenticeships and support services from the Akron Urban League.  
  4. Phase 3: Apprenticeship – Candidates completing Phase 2 will be placed in the apprenticeship program as a Help Desk Technician. This is the job placement and the earn and learn portion. Expect to get:
  • Help Desk Technician W-2 full time employee, full benefits
  • 12+ months of on-the-job training
  • 144 hours of Help Desk curriculum 
  • Department of Labor certified  
  • Weekly sessions with a Franklin Success Coach
  • Monthly AUL and Franklin progress reviews and support
